How long should I stay on the program? It really depends on your own goals. It is recommended to do the fast for at least five days. This is long enough to get into the cleanse and really notice the results. Stanley Burroughs originally recommended the diet for ten days, and many people do it longer than that.
Why shouldn’t I use maple syrup instead of the Madal Bal Syrup? Maple syrup is cheaper. The Madal Bal Syrup does cost more but it’s well worth it. It was formulated specifically for the diet with the right mineral concentrations and nutritional value. It gives your body more nutrients than regular maple syrup does. Plus remember, the only thing you are going to need to buy for the week is lemons for the lemon juice. You probably will spend less money during the cleanse then you would if you went out one night for a nice dinner. We have honestly talked with hundreds of people who have done the diet with maple syrup and then done it with our syrup, and they told us how much better they felt during the diet, how much more energy they had and how much easier it was to stay on the diet with the Madal Bal syrup. Several people who weren’t able to stick with the diet using maple syrup told us our syrup made doing the diet possible for them and enjoyable! The whole reason for the invention of the Madal Bal Syrup was to make the diet much easier.
So, is this the diet Beyonce did? Yes, she did it using our syrup, although the press doesn’t always mention us. A number of celebrities have done the diet, including Ashanti, Robin Quivers and many others.
Do the Neera™ Natural Packs include everything needed to do the diet? Everything, except lemons for the lemon juice. You many also use limes, if you prefer.
What is the salt water flush or sea salt shake? During the diet most people drink a cup of the laxative tea to make sure they have a daily bowel movement. Since you’re just on liquids, there is nothing solid to create a bowel movement, so we recommend the tea. But you can also try the salt water flush/sea salt shake where you mix 2 teaspoons of sea salt with about a quart of warm water. You drink as much of it down as you can. The body can’t absorb it and it goes right through. It’s a great colonic flush and it’s safe because it is sea salt, not table salt. It doesn’t taste great but it works great. There are more details about this in the booklet included in your kit, and on the web site HERE.
Can I eat solid food during the diet? It is not recommended. The idea of the cleanse is to rest the digestive tract and allow the body to focus its energy on cleansing. If you eat solid food, you stop this process. The best tip is to keep a batch of the Neera™ Natural Drink with you at all times. When you start to feel hungry, take a big gulp of it. This will satiate your hunger and give you the energy to keep going while aiding your body’s cleansing process.
Can I drink anything besides the Neera™ Natural Drink during the diet? If you feel the need for variety, then once or twice a day you can drink a cup of herbal tea or freshly squeezed citrus juice (orange or grapefruit). Peppermint, rosehip and chamomile teas are useful complements to the Neera™ Natural Drink and make a nice contrast in taste. Peppermint tea especially supports the cleansing process, offers relief from headaches, cleanses the palate and neutralizes any mouth or body odors that may arise. Teas and juices should only be sweetened with the Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup, if at all, and don’t use or add any dairy products. However, you should stick to the Neera™ Natural Drink as much as possible. It is crucial for giving you energy and supporting the cleansing process of the diet.
Can I change the mix of the Neera™ Natural Drink? Yes, you can change the amount of syrup but don’t change the amount of lemon juice. You can make the Neera™ Natural Drink less sweet by using 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of syrup to 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, or if you are especially hungry, you can add more syrup. Find a mix that works for you. You can adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your liking, too.
How much should I drink per day? Depending on your body size, you should drink about one gallon of liquids, including the Neera™ Natural Drink, per day. Most people drink 6-8 glasses of the Neera™ Natural Drink in one day. This ensures that waste material will not be too concentrated in the organs of elimination as the body goes through the cleansing process. Drink the Neera™ Natural Drink whenever you start to feel hungry. Don’t limit the amount you drink, or try to drink too much. A good starting point is to mix up a 2-quart batch in the morning and drink from that throughout the day. You may need more than this, and some people need less. Everybody is different and their requirements differ. Listen to your own body.
Will lemon juice be too acidic on an empty stomach? Is lemon alkaline or acidic? Citrus fruits are assumed to have an acidifying effect on the body. In actual fact, lemon juice is the opposite. It is one of the best alkalizing foods in nature. It helps counterbalance the acidity created in the body by the average American diet. More about this can be found on our News page.
Won’t I put the weight right back on after the diet? Most of the time, the weight stays off. Unlike many other diets where the weight loss is mostly water weight, most of the weight lost during the Neera™ Natural Plan comes from the loss of diseased cells and fat tissue. Also, one of the greatest benefits of the Neera™ Natural Plan is that people usually kick their “bad food” addictions. As you probably know, the foods that aren’t good for you are usually the same foods that make you overweight. “Junk foods,” processed foods, sugary foods, and high carbohydrate diets can all cause the body to gain weight as a way of storing these excess carbohydrates. A lot of these foods become addictive. Studies have shown that long-term high sugar diets and high processed-carbohydrate diets become addictive. We literally crave sweets and other highly processed, high carbohydrate foods. When you go on a cleansing diet like the Neera™ Natural Plan, your body can overcome these addictions by getting a break from your normal diet. By the third or fourth day of the Neera™ Natural Plan, you’ll most likely feel really good, healthy, vibrant and clear, because your body is cleaning out all the junk in your system. When you come off of the Neera™ Natural Plan, you won’t want to go back to your old diet because you feel so good, and the mere idea of eating junk food will seem repulsive. Once you break these addictions, your body literally tells your mind, “I don’t want this stuff in my system.” Most people who perform the Neera™ Natural Detox & Cleansing Lifestyle Plan do it as a way of starting a new, better diet and lifestyle. The diet cleans you out. You’ll lose excess weight and then feel so good that you’ll want to launch into a consistently better diet and lifestyle. We constantly get feedback from people who reconfirm this. For more information about using the Neera™ Natural Plan to launch into a healthier more natural diet, please see our Maintaining Good Health page.
Is this a diet with a lot of laxatives? For most people, drinking some laxative tea or the “sea salt shake” is recommended during the diet. This is just to stimulate a daily bowel movement and is not a big part of the diet. Some people are under the misconception that drinking lots of laxative tea will help them lose weight. It is simply not true, and it is not safe. We recommend drinking no more than 2 cups of the herbal laxative tea per day during the length of the cleanse. This is only meant to help stimulate a daily bowel movement. More about laxatives can be found on our elimination page.
If I am underweight, is it safe to do the diet? Yes, in most cases. Many people suffer from underweight conditions because they are not getting the necessary nutrients they need from their diet, or they have a toxic condition in their body that is not allowing them to absorb the necessary nutrients from the food they ingest. During the Neera™ Natural Plan, people who are underweight will usually lose a little bit more weight; however once they come off the diet, they will gain the weight right back and usually add a few more pounds to get them closer to their natural weight. This happens because during the cleansing process of the Neera™ Natural Detox Plan, the body will usually heal itself from the toxic condition that was preventing adequate nutrient absorption. Once the person comes off the diet, the body is able to better digest and absorb nutrients and able to get to a more normal, healthy weight.
Can I do the diet if I have high cholesterol and blood pressure? We do recommend you consult your physician first, if you have any sort of medical condition. A lot of people have had great success with the diet in lowering their blood pressure and cholesterol. Over the years we have received numerous testimonials to this effect. “After I had my gall bladder removed I took a blood test and my cholesterol was 253. My liver count was 160. My blood pressure was 130 over 80. I bought one can this summer in San Diego. I have been drinking it for breakfast, a salad for lunch and anything for supper. I received my blood results yesterday on October 13. My cholesterol is 189. My liver count is 71. My blood pressure is 106 over 68. I have lost 25 lbs. I have never achieved this kind of amazing results before. This is the first time my cholesterol has been below 200 in 22 years. I would like to say thank you.” D. Owen, San Diego, California
Can the diet be attempted with a stomach ulcer? The diet has been used specifically for stomach ulcers. The diet was originally developed by Stanley Burroughs to help cure a patient of stomach ulcers. Lemon juice is one of the best alkalizing foods there is, which is counterintuitive since it is acidic until it is broken down in the stomach. Since ulcers have several different causes, however, we always suggest that you check with your doctor first. If you get their permission to do the diet, we recommend doing it under the surveillance of a health professional.
Can I perform the diet if I have diabetes? People with type 2 diabetes have successfully and safely performed the Neera™ Natural Detox & Cleansing Diet Plan. While the Neera™ Natural Drink contains sugar from the natural tree syrups, a “no-no” for diabetics, each glass contains a fairly low amount. The idea of the diet is to drink many glasses of the Neera™ Natural Drink throughout the day giving the body a steady dose of simple carbohydrate. The great thing about the Neera™ Natural Plan for type 2 diabetics is that it is a great weight loss diet, which is a major factor in decreasing the effects of diabetes. Also, the cleanse that the internal organs get is great for increasing their efficiency. If you have type 2 diabetes and you would like to perform the Neera™ Natural Plan, we recommend that you get the permission of your doctor. However, most doctors are going to be unfamiliar with a cleansing fast like the Neera™ Natural Plan. DIrect your doctor to our web site, if he/she has any questions. Type 2 diabetics who have performed the Neera™ Natural Plan tell us that they simply keep a close monitor of their blood sugar levels, as they normally should. Checking the levels 3-4 times a day is the safest. For more questions about type 2 diabetes and Neera™ Natural please contact us.
Can I do the diet while pregnant or nursing? We do not recommend the diet for women who are pregnant or nursing. As stored toxins are released during the cleanse they may be passed into the baby. The diet is very popular with women who have finished nursing, however, or for women who are trying to conceive.
Will the diet change the effectiveness of contraceptives like the pill? It is safe to do the diet while taking the pill, and we have never heard of the diet having any detrimental effect on its effectiveness.
Does this diet use any fiber for cleansing? The Neera™ Natural Plan as prescribed by Stanley Burroughs does not use any fiber in the diet. The idea of the diet is to rest the whole digestive system as much as possible, and to let the body naturally clean itself out with help of the Neera™ Natural Drink’s ingredients and an occasional laxative. There are no psyllium shakes or other fibrous drinks that need to be taken.
Can I drink coffee or caffeinated beverages during the diet? We recommend that you try not to drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages during the Neera™ Natural Detox & Cleansing Lifestyle Plan. Coffee is very toxic to the body, as are most caffeinated beverages. Since you are trying to get rid of toxins during the Neera™ Natural Plan, drinking coffee is counter-productive. If you really feel the need for caffeine, tea is better than coffee, and green tea is better than black tea. If you are going to go “cold turkey” off coffee during the cleanse, you might experience some caffeine withdrawal symptoms like headaches and irritability. This is because coffee is very addictive and really not very good for most people. If you have coffee withdrawal symptoms, they usually last 1- 3 days. You might want to slowly wean yourself off coffee before the diet or be prepared to take extra rest the first few days of the diet. If the caffeine withdrawal symptoms get too bad, take an Advil rather than drinking another cup of coffee. By the time you get to the fifth day of the diet, and have been off caffeine, you will feel so good that you will probably question whether or not you really want to go back to drinking coffee. At least it will give you some perspective on it.
Can I keep taking vitamins and supplements during the diet? We recommend that you minimize the intake of vitamins and supplements during the diet. Remember, anything that you take into your body has to be digested and eliminated. Any vitamins or supplements that you take during the diet add to the digestive load of your system, diverting some of your body’s energy from cleansing to digestion. If you are taking any vitamins or supplements on the advice of a healthcare practitioner for a particular ailment or deficiency, then you may wish to keep taking them. Please consult your physician about it. However, if you are taking vitamins or supplements for just general health, we recommend that you stop taking them during the diet and then resume after the diet.
Should I keep taking my medication? If you are taking medicine prescribed by a doctor, then use common sense. Medicines may lessen the effect of the diet, but before you stop taking them, you should be in agreement with your doctor. It is better to do the Neera™ Natural Plan while still taking medicine than not to do it all.
Can I chew gum? There is some debate over this question. Some people like to chew gum during the fast to have something to chew on since they’re not eating food. Also chewing gum can be a nice change of taste. However, the act of chewing is the start of the digestive process, and some people believe that it also starts cravings which can make the diet more difficult. Also most gums contain processed sugar or artificial sugars and chemicals, which we recommend avoiding. On the other hand it’s probably not the worst thing for the diet. If you really must chew gum, we recommend a naturally sugar-free gum like Peelu gum, or others like it that can be found at most health food stores. We leave the final decision to you.
Can I keep exercising? Keep training, but take it easy. Avoid strenuous exercise, as intense exertion may encourage toxins to be reabsorbed rather than eliminated. When we engage in vigorous activity, the body is forced to call upon extra reserves of energy and synthesizes energy from protein and fat. This is a demanding process distracting the body from its cleansing priorities, and when compounded by the release of lactic acid from muscular activity, only increases the toxic load. Nevertheless, gentle exercise is very helpful to the cleansing process. The key is finding the right balance of activity and rest. Adequate rest is crucial during the Neera™ Natural Plan. While resting, the body performs its vital cleansing tasks. Athletes in training may experience a reduction in stamina, and are advised to cut back 60-70% of normal training intensity for the duration of the diet. Far from interfering with your training, the Neera™ Natural Plan is a wise investment for any athlete. Most athletes return to full training after the diet with renewed energy and enthusiasm. There are world-class athletes who perform the Neera™ Natural Plan several times per year as part of the “recovery phase” of their training. You’ll find that your body performs more efficiently when it is cleansed and purified, experiencing higher energy levels and performance.
Should I refrigerate the syrup after opening the can?
Like all tree syrups, an unopened can of Madal Bal Syrup has a long shelf life unrefrigerated–about 3 years. Once the can is opened, it will still have a long shelf life, but we do recommend refrigerating the can to maximize its life span.
Is there anything else I can do to help the cleansing process? Take extra time to rest, if needed. Be gentle with yourself while your body is going through the cleanse. A warm bath with mineral salts is a nice addition to the diet– or a sauna, especially if you are experiencing aches from the detoxing process. Some people like to dry brush their skin during the cleanse. Dry brushing promotes lymphatic drainage and helps to loosen the toxins stored in fat pockets under your skin. Use a natural bristle brush or a loofah to brush the skin of your entire body starting from the feet, moving upwards towards the heart. Repeat this every morning and night before your bath.
Can I place/ship an order outside of the US? We have a direct link on our site for Canadian orders. We do not ship outside of the US. If you’d like to see a list of distributors of our product in other parts of the world, please go to www.puris.ch.
